Abiogenesis and Atmospheric Shift

Veteran’s Day brings the best of the early updated aphasein releases from the archives: Abiogenesis and Atmospheric Shift. The old Amiga600 has now been retired again after re-recording these classics from the important beginnings of aphasein (which showcase a surprising amount of diversity, and transition from the dark early themes into brighter and weirder landscapes). Dig in.

Abiogenesis

by aphasein / Listen / Download /

10-track album of early A-sides written in OctaMED on the Amiga600 during autumn/winter 1997; re-recorded in 2022. This original debut album was created in a tiny apartment walk-in closet studio, sound reverberating off the close walls at full volume late at night and resonating with brilliant micro-textures. These longer tracks were the culmination of the darker, pounding industrial/rave/videogame atmospherics that would transition on to brighter, more melodic anthems.

Atmospheric Shift

by aphasein / Listen / Download /

11-track album of early A-sides written in OctaMED on the Amiga600 during winter/spring 1998; re-recorded in 2022. This compilation album was created from three original EPs that focused on lighter, emotional melodic themes and new jungle/hip-hop/breakbeat loop experimentation. Still plenty of videogame stylings and leftfield movements throughout these extended workouts that were the zenith of the Amiga600 work.
